GKCOA Mission and Purpose

Purpose

The Greater Kansas City Officials Association (GKCOA) is one of the largest officials' associations in the state of Missouri.  We are organized to:

  • Assist member officials in improving their proficiency and efficiency in the interpretation and application of rules and officiating mechanics.
  • Cultivate and improve the relationship between athletic officials and athletic directors, coaches, players, the media and they public in general.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of officiating ethics for all athletic officials.
  • Work in cooperation with MSHSAA in support of high school athletics.

The GKCOA primary purpose is to educate, train and support high school sports officials.  We do facilitate assignments in three of our sports (Basketball, Football and Volleyball); however, this is only in support of our primary purpose and game assignments are not a guarantee.

Mission Statement

GKCOA promotes and encourages sportsmanship in athletic contests with no discrimination regarding race, creed, gender, sexual orientation or national origin.

Local Officials Associations

Although the MSHSAA does not require member officials to belong to certified local officials associations, it is strongly suggested they join one whenever possible.  Many important ideas and officiating methods can be learned from a membership in a local official's association.  Click here to learn How to Join GKCOA.  If you still have questions, please contact us at info@gkcoa.org.

The Greater Kansas City Officials Association is registered with the MSHSAA and has met the criteria as a Certified Local Association.
